Sun Gazing..

It was not for the first time that I was making this sacrifice of giving my four accumulated chocolates to my brother. Raghav had the habit of clearing his stock of chocolates on a daily basis. On the other hand, I inherited the characteristics of saving everything from my father. So the deal was final, he would drop me on his Scooty to Tia’s place.

We used to wait for these monthly visits at each other’s place. It started with a different board game every time. Sometimes I used to wonder, how many games she actually had at her home. I had already tried my hand at monopoly, where we used to trade cities for that plastic coated fake currency; Straw construction, where we created various models by using straws and connectors; and Jigsaw puzzles of different animals and birds.

“Ankita, take one more piece beta,” her mom said, offering a freshly baked chocolate walnut cake cut into perfect triangular pieces. This was the part I enjoyed the most, being treated with some of the most delicious delicacies. After having our lunch, we placed our chairs in the balcony. Her mom came and kept two large mugs of cold coffee with evening snacks on the small table in front of us.

“Have you started doing the holidays homework?” asked Tia, with eyes strongly anticipating a no from my side.

“No, not yet,” my eyes still stuck at the chocolate sauce topping on the coffee. She breathed a sigh of relief with that. Although we were called as best friends in class but no one could deny the fact that I was her biggest competitor in terms of performance in academics.

I could sense the aroma of coffee funnelling up my nose with every sip and there we were sitting and gazing at the glorious sunset with our discussions about vacation trips. And then I realised that the day was worth spending those four chocolates on my brother.
